Solvent systems, both chemical and physical, are widely used in refineries and natural gas processing plants for acid gas seperation which is the seperation of CO2 and H2S, "acid gas", from Methane. The acid gases from chemical solvent systems like amines in amine plant must be sent to a sulfur recovery unit (SRU) or other process for final sulfur removal. In the case of physical solvent systems, H2S is removed upstream of the solvent to maximize solvent performance and economics.
